Quick Start

Get up and running with Maskr in under two minutes.

1. Visit Maskr

Open maskr.space in your browser. No app download is required — Maskr is a progressive web app that works on any device.

2. Choose how to sign in

Maskr offers three sign-in methods — pick whatever suits you best:

  • Nostr extension (recommended) — install a NIP-07 browser extension such as Alby or nos2x, generate a key pair inside the extension, then click “Connect extension” on the Maskr sign-in screen. Your private key never leaves the extension.
  • Passkey (biometric) — use Face ID, Touch ID, or your device PIN. Maskr derives a Nostr key pair from your passkey so you get a fully self-sovereign identity without ever managing raw keys.
  • OAuth — sign in with an existing account (e.g. GitHub). A Nostr key pair is created and custodied for you, making this the easiest option for newcomers.

3. Set up your profile

Head to Settings → Profile to personalise your account. You can add a display name, write a short bio, and upload an avatar. You can also claim a NIP-05 identity (a human-readable Nostr address like you@maskr.space) for an optional layer of verification. Everything here is optional — you can remain completely anonymous if you prefer.

4. Start posting

Click the compose button (pencil icon) to open the post editor. You can write plain text, attach images or GIFs, and add emojis. When you hit Post, Maskr signs the event with your key and broadcasts it to your configured relays. Your post is now on the Nostr network.

5. Explore

Once you're set up, here are a few things to try:

  • Search — find posts, people, articles, and hashtags from across the Nostr network
  • Follow — follow people whose public keys or NIP-05 addresses you know to build your personalised feed
  • Join communities — browse topic-based communities and participate in focused discussions
  • Send a DM — open an encrypted direct message thread with any Nostr user
  • Zap a post — Lightning zaps are coming soon; once enabled, you can connect a wallet via NWC and send Bitcoin tips to any post or profile
